Autumn snowstorm closes roads in southern Germany
STUTTGART, Germany (AFP) Oct 08, 2003
A pre-season snowstorm blanketed southern Germany Wednesday leading to several road closures and traffic jams, authorities said.

Fallen trees and ice made roads treacherous in the Black Forest and Allgaeu regions, where two autobahns were shut temporarily. Several minor car accidents were reported throughout the states of Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg, authorities said.

"We were shocked by the early snow," said a spokesman for the highway police in the southwestern town of Muehlhausen.

Train service in the city of Freiburg was interrupted due to downed trees blocking the tracks. Isolated power outages were reported in Bavaria.
