Some 13 districts in the northwestern Rajshahi division of Bangladesh were worst hit, the official news agency BSS said quoting local officials.
It said of the 800,000 people marooned in that area, some 100,000 were staying at temporary centres, having made it to higher ground before being cut off by the waters. It did not say where the other 700,000 people were.
The officials said some 32,000 hectares (80,000 acres) of land had been inundated by flood water and warned that the situation was likely to worsen over coming days.
Parts of the northeastern Sylhet, Sunamganj and Netrakona districts were also affected and at least five people were killed in flood related accidents, the private UNB agency added.
It said two people were electrocuted in Sylhet district when they touched live wires while three drowned after their boat capsized in Sunamganj district.
Meanwhile, three people died in a landslide triggered by monsoon rains in the southeastern port city of Chittagong 208 kilometres (130 miles) from Dhaka, officials said Sunday.
Rescue workers managed to save five people after their slum was engulfed in the landslide on Saturday.
But two women and a three-year-old boy died on their way to hospital, police and fire brigade officials told AFP.
