Iceland flights resume after volcanic eruption Flights into and out of Iceland resumed Sunday after a volcanic eruption overnight brought international traffic to a halt, but domestic flights remained grounded, an aviation official told AFP. "The first international flights from Keflavik (international) airport resumed at around 11 o'clock (1100 GMT) this morning," Hjordis Gudmundsdottir of the Icelandic airport authority said. But she said "all domestic flights" have been cancelled. A few domestic flights had taken off early Sunday but all further traffic was halted as the agency monitored volcanic activity and the weather, she added. Keflavik's website indicated most international flights to and from Iceland were delayed by a few hours. A volcanic eruption in the south of Iceland forced 600 people to flee their homes on Sunday but no casualties were reported. It was the first volcanic eruption in Iceland since 2004, and the first in the vicinity of the Eyjafjallajoekull glacier since 1823. All rights reserved. © 2005 Agence France-Presse.
