Dmatek announced Tuesday a new pilot of its real-time GPS offender tracking system, STaR, in New South Wales (NSW) Australia. The STaR system is developed and manufactured by Elmo-Tech, a wholly owned subsidiary that operates in the corrections and law enforcement market.

The new programme will be administered by the parole board of the NSW Department of Corrective Services (DOC). Initially limited in scope, the pilot is designated for convicted sex offenders as a part of their parole conditions throughout their entire parole period.

The system will be configured to alert authorities if the monitored individuals approach schools, childcare centres or other places from which they are banned, such as a victim's home. New South Wales Premier, Bob Carr was quoted saying at last week's launch of the GPS pilot "...it's one way of making parole conditions more effective...''

The STaR system is a high-end, real-time tracking module of Elmo-Tech's E3 home detention monitoring system which is used by the NSW DOC.

Elmo-Tech's radio frequency based monitoring system has been used in NSW since 1998 and was upgraded last year to the advanced E3 range, which enables seamless integration of multiple monitoring tools over a single operational platform.

Dmatek's CEO, Yoav Reisman said, "The integration of GPS tracking extends the New South Wales Corrective Services a second level of intensive supervision over presence monitoring. Our systems support such integration, therefore creating an effective case management tool."

Elmo-Tech's STaR GPS systems are currently in use in the UK Home Office pilot and in the US.
