Schwarzenegger Hails Energy And Inclusiveness Of Sarkozy

California governor and sometime film star Arnold Schwarzenegger hailed Monday in Paris the inclusiveness of new French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his impact on international relations. "I've come back here at least a hundred times," said the man who became famous as the Terminator, after a half-hour meeting with Sarkozy. "But it's the first time I'm here as the governor of the great state of California."

He was accompanied onto the terrace of the Elysee palace by Sarkozy whose hand he shook at length for the benefit of the hordes of reporters and cameramen.

"He is really a new, fresh blood for politics in the world," said the Austrian-born ex-body builder.

"I admire him tremendously and I think that everyone in the political arena, anywhere in the world, has admiration for him because he is inclusive and he is going to put all new energy into relationships between France and other countries, and our state.

"And, as I said to him, I want do anything possible to help him and we should work together," he said.

"I've met the president just now to talk about environmental issues, how France and California can work together to fight global warming and improve the environment."

Schwarzenegger, like former US vice-president Al Gore, has become a champion of environmental causes. In 2006, California became the first US state to undertake to cut greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the Kyoto agreement rejected by US President George W. Bush.

The two men discussed the possibility of opening next year a Californian commercial mission in France and discussed France's high speed TGV train.

From Paris, Schwarznegger was due to go on to London where on Tuesday morning he is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair whose 10-year term in office terminates this week.
