Earthquake shocks Indonesia's West Java province
JAKARTA (AFP) Jul 11, 2003
An earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale shook parts of Indonesia's West Java province on Friday morning, damaging several houses but causing no injuries, officials said.

The quake occured at 7:19 am (0019 GMT) and was felt strongly in the district of Lembang near the provincial capital Bandung, said an official at the National Seismology Center.

The epicenter was onshore, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of Bandung.

The tremor left cracks in at least three houses in Lembang, the state Antara news agency said.

Indonesia, the world's largest archipelagic state, is prone to seismic upheavals.
