![]() BEIJING (AFP) Dec 07, 2004 The death toll in a landslide in southwest China's Guizhou province has risen to 39 with five still missing, national radio reported on Tuesday. Firemen and police were continuing their search but there was little hope of finding anyone alive after Friday's disaster, when a huge mass of earth came crashing down on a mountainside village. The radio report also said two million yuan (240,000 dollars) in central government aid had arrived for the more than 340 people left homeless. The landslide is the latest in a series of deadly accidents to hit China in the past six weeks including two major gas explosions which killed 314 miners.
