Galapagos bans international fishing competition
QUITO (AFP) Jan 18, 2005
The Galapagos National Park management said Tuesday in a statement that no sports fishing competitions would be allowed in the ecologically important archipelago.

The statement was released following media speculation in Ecuador early January of an international angling competition in the islands.

The Park said that, under the Regulations for Tourism in Natural Areas (RETANP) for the province of Galapagos province, a "major tourism activity" such as this was not permissible.
