BEIJING (AFP) Apr 09, 2005 Extreme gales, rain and hail have claimed 10 lives and destroyed 20,000 homes in southwest China since violent storms hit the region on Friday, the official Xinhua news agency said Saturday. The report said another two people had been injured and one person was missing after strong gales swept through more than 20 cities and counties including Guangyuan, Santai and Daxian. "The severe weather also destroyed more than 20,000 houses, causing millions of yuan in losses," the dispatch said.
