Mountain torrent kills 11 bus passengers in northwest China
BEIJING (AFP) May 22, 2005
Mountain torrents flushed a bus into a river, leaving 11 people dead and three others missing in northwest China's Xinjiang region, state media said Sunday.

The accident happened Saturday in Lop county, which has had continuous rain and flooding in recent days, the Xinhua news agency said.

The bus was stuck at a flood-damaged section of a road where many passengers got out to push it. But a torrent came down and carried the bus into a nearby river, Xinhua said.

Sixteen people were rescued.
