TAIPEI (AFP) Jun 05, 2005
Three earthquakes measuring up to 4.8 on the Richter scale rocked Taiwan Sunday, the Seismology Centre said, but there were no reports of damage or casualties.

The 4.8 magnitude quake occurred at 9:16 am (0116 GMT), with its epicenter 14.8 kilometres (8.88 miles) southeast of Kukeng, a town in southern Taiwan. It originated 8.2 kilometres under the ground.

The other two temblors, with magnitudes of 4.3 and 4.1, struck eastern Hualien county earlier in the morning.

Taiwan's worst earthquake, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, occurred in September 1999 and left about 2,400 people dead.
