"At least three sections of road in Latvia are heavily damaged, and one road in Riga district has been closed today due to rain damage," Daiga Mezapuke, a spokeswoman of Latvian State Roads, told AFP.
Roads mainly have been washed out and bridges have been damaged by floods in the northern, central and eastern parts of Latvia, she said.
Unusually heavy rainfall has also raised water level in rivers in the northeast and southern parts of Latvia, but no one had to be evacuated from their homes.
"The current situation is not as critical as it was in spring after very heavy flooding," Mezapuke added.
Meanwhile, the 150 hydro-electricity stations that dot Latvia's rivers are being closely monitored to avoid more flooding.
"The environment minister has asked the state environment department to closely control small hydro-power stations to avoid larger floods," the minister's aide, Didzis Jonovs, told AFP.
The hydro-electricity stations change the rivers' natural course, and could cause flooding if not monitored adequately.
Meteorologists have forecast that the heavy rains will continue until Sunday.
