12,200 swine flu deaths in 2009: WHO
GENEVA, Dec 30 (AFP) Dec 30, 2009
Swine flu, which first emerged in Mexico in March 2009, has killed at least 12,220 people worldwide, the World Health Organisation said on Wednesday.

It said the Americas, especially the United States and Canada, has been the worst affected with at least 6,670 victims this year.

The WHO said that eastern and central Europe were the most active areas for transmission.

It said there had been at least 2,422 confirmed fatal cases in Europe.
