At least 15 killed in Guinea landslide
Conakry, Aug 21 (AFP) Aug 21, 2025

At least 15 people were killed in a landslide near the Guinean capital, Conakry, a hospital source told AFP on Thursday.

The landslide happened on Wednesday night in the Maneah area after heavy rainfall. Rescue workers, including the army, were searching for survivors and other victims on Thursday afternoon.

At least 10 injured were taken to hospital in the nearby town of Coyah, the National Agency for Emergency and Humanitarian Disaster Management (ANGUCH) said.

"Significant logistical resources have been deployed to support rescue operations, conducted in close collaboration with local residents, who are guiding teams to the most at-risk areas," said planning minister Mory Conde.

Landslides are common in Guinea during rainy season, which runs from June to September, and have been worsened by chaotic urbanisation on mountain slopes and flood-prone areas.

Since the start of this season, ANGUCH has recorded about 50 weather-related deaths
