6.0-mag quake hits Japan's Volcano Islands
Tokyo, March 2 (AFP) Mar 02, 2026
A strong 6.0-magnitude quake was recorded near Japan's remote Volcano Islands on Monday, the United States Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of any damage, injuries or tsunami warning from the quake, which according to the USGS took place at 12:55 pm (0355 GMT).

The Volcano Islands, located around 1,250 kilometres (780 miles) from Tokyo, are uninhabited except for a military garrison on Iwo Jima, the scene of a major World War II battle.
