African dust storm, rain disrupt transport in Greece
Athens, April 1 (AFP) Apr 01, 2026
African dust on Wednesday disrupted flights to the Greek island of Crete as a storm front battered the mainland, keeping most ferries in port.

State weather service EMY in a statement forecast "severe weather" to Thursday in most parts of the country "with prolonged and intense rain and thunderstorms, and possibly localised hailstorms."

Authorities in Athens and mainland Greece issued warnings ahead of heavy rainfall and gale-force winds expected until Friday.

In Crete, three flights headed to Iraklio had to be rerouted, state news agency ANA said.
