Rescuers in Austria on Saturday found the body of a Slovak man killed in an avalanche -- the 31st death in the country's current ski season, based on a prior toll given by the European Avalanche Warning Service. The 40-year-old man had been skiing on the slopes of Plattenspitze mountain in the Salzburg region when the avalanche struck Friday.
A search had to be suspended at about midnight because of high winds and the risk of more landslides. Rescuers helicoptered to the site on Saturday found the body under two metres (6.5 feet) of snow, police said.
More than 100 people have died across the European Alps in one of the most deadly ski seasons of recent years.
