A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Peru's southern coast Tuesday, with no casualties or damage reported so far, authorities said.The quake occurred in the Ica region at 12:57 pm (1757 GMT), according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru.
Its epicenter was located 41 kilometers south of the city of Ica, and the quake could be felt moderately in Lima -- some 400 kilometers away.
"I felt the tremor strongly, I went out into the street with my wife," an Ica resident told RPP radio.
Located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," Peru is one of the countries with the highest seismic activity in the world.
The South American nation records at least 100 earthquakes every year.
