Miami (AFP) Aug 24, 2008 Tropical storm Julio honed in on the resort-heavy southern coastline of Mexico's Baja California Sunday, threatening to unleash torrents of rain and heavy winds on the popular tourist area. The US National Hurricane Center in Miami warned that the storm would dump up to 15 centimeters (six inches) of rain on the southern Baja peninsula. At 1800 GMT the center of Julio was about 35 kilometers (20 miles) south-southwest of the popular resort of Cabo San Lucas, with sustained winds of 85 kilometers (50 miles) per hour. "Little change in strength is expected before Julio reaches the Baja Peninsula later today and weakening is forecast to begin tonight or early Monday," the center said. The storm was moving at 20 kilometers (13 miles) per hour in a north-northwesterly direction that would keep it on a course over the peninsula through Wednesday.
