German nuclear waste convoy leaves for Britain
NECKARWESTHEIM, Germany (AFP) Jul 01, 2003
A convoy carrying nuclear waste set off Tuesday from the Neckarwestheim power station in southwest Germany bound for the Sellafield reprocessing centre in Britain, police said.

Four anti-nuclear militants were questioned after they briefly held up the container trucks carrying the waste, which were due to join up with other convoys before being shipped by train to Sellafield, the source added.

Nuclear waste shipments are often met with protests in Germany, which is gradually phasing out nuclear power and has no waste treatment facilities of its own, although this time there appeared to be no serious demonstrations.
