Caribbean islands showered with volcanic ash
POINT-A-PITRE (AFP) Jul 13, 2003
Volcanic ash rained down Sunday on the French islands of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthelemy in the Caribbean, covering homes, cars and vegetation with a fine layer of grit, inhabitants said.

The ash is coming from the Soufriere Hills volcano on the British island of Montserrat, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) to the south. The volcano has been erupting since 1995, forcing about half of Montserrat's 10,600 residents to flee the island.
