Typhoon Imbudo to hit northern Philippines
MANILA (AFP) Jul 22, 2003
Typhoon Imbudo, with maximum sustained winds of 190 kilometers (nearly 120 miles) per hour, was expected to hit the northern Philippine town of Palanan before noon Tuesday, the weather bureau said.

The highest level of a four-stage storm alert has been raised over the provinces in the northernmost part of the main island of Luzon.

Imbudo was charted moving 24 kilometers (14.9 miles) per hour to the northwest. The storm is one of the strongest to hit the Philippines in recent months.

However, there have been no reports of casualties or damage yet but nearly 2,000 people were left stranded at sea ports after their ships were barred from sailing due to the storm.

At least two domestic flights have been cancelled.
