Fierce storms batter southern Germany
MUNICH, Germany (AFP) Jul 27, 2003
Violents storms late Sunday caused widespread damage in Germany's southern state of Bavaria, where authorites used a snowplough to remove hail stones blocking a section of the Munich-Stuttgart highway, authorities said.

The storms also felled trees and caused traffic jams on highways across the state.

The German weather center predicted more storms, with winds gusting up to 117 kilometers (70 miles) per hour, in other parts of Germany, especially in the east where temperatures soared to 36 degrees (97 degrees) Sunday.
