Fires destroy citrus, olive trees in Lebanon
TYRE, Lebanon (AFP) Jul 31, 2003
Fire spread Thursday across five hectares (12 acres) of mostly citrus trees and olive groves in southern Lebanon, a civil defence source told AFP.

More than 50 civil defence workers, backed by six fire engines, were struggling to extinguish two separate fires in Tair Dibba and Srifa, southeast of Tyre, he said.

He said the fires were most probably due to accidental fires started by local peasants, in addition to the summer heat.

On Wednesday, the civil defence said a forest fire destroyed over 200 hectares (500 acres) in north Lebanon.
