Brewer sends abroad for supplies as thirsty Britons demand beer
LONDON (AFP) Aug 13, 2003
Giant brewing firm Carlsberg-Tetley said Wednesday that demand for beer from thirsty Britons has been so high during a heatwave that it has been forced to ship in emergency supplies from Denmark.

The company said the soaring temperatures in the last two months have led to a 40 percent increase in sales across Britain.

Workers at Carlsberg-Tetley's plant in Northampton, central England, struggled to cope and called for extra supplies of lager from the firm's head office in Copenhagen.

Spokeswoman Donna Cresswell said the demand in recent weeks was "unprecedented".

"Everybody has been working flat out to meet demand but we've also had to call over to Copenhagen to get them to ship some extra supplies in."
