Taiwan issues storm alert
TAIPEI (AFP) Aug 22, 2003
Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau Friday issued a warning against strong winds with the approach of tropical storm Krovanh, which was currently heading towards Luzon in the Philippines.

At 8:00 am (0000 GMT), the center of the storm was located at 580 kilometers (360 miles) southeast of Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving west towards Luzon at a speed of 22 kilometers (nearly 14 miles) per hour, the bureau said.

"The storm is likely to gain momentum and speed up as it approaches the Bashih Channel," the bureau said, urging ships sailing and operating in the south to be vigilant.
