Thailand's north, northeast told to brace for worsening floods
BANGKOK (AFP) Sep 15, 2003
Thailand's northern regions should brace for flash floods brought on by heavy rains this week, adding to already rising seasonal floodwaters, officials warned Monday.

The rains are expected from Tuesday to lash the kingdom's north and northeast, where 27 provinces are already facing flooding which has left one person dead and affected 293,408 people, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said in a statement.

The northern province of Sukhothai and northeastern provice of Roi-Et have faced serious flooding since early September.

Agriculture Minister Sora-at Klinpratum said the flooding has caused about 150 million baht (3.69 million dollars) in damage to agriculture, fisheries and roads.
