Insured US losses of Isabel less than one billion dollars: SwissRe
ZURICH (AFP) Sep 26, 2003
Hurricane Isabel caused estimated insured losses of "less than" one billion dollars when it swept across the US East Coast, SwissRe, one of the world's largest reinsurance companies, estimated on Friday.

The estimate was contained in a fact file published on SwissRe's Internet site.

Estimates of overall economic loss in the United States are in the range of several billion dollars and "no major single losses have been reported yet", it added.

The storm killed 28 people as it cut a swathe through seven eastern states and the US capital Washington last Sunday, causing floods, destroying property and cutting power lines.
