MIAMI (AFP) Oct 04, 2003
The US weather service issued a tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch for Mexico as Tropical Storm Larry churned in the Gulf of Mexico Friday.

"Coastal storm surge flooding above normal tide levels should gradually increase along the coast of Bay of Campeche on Friday, accompanied by large and dangerous battering waves.

"This flooding is expected wherever the winds are blowing onshore," the National Hurricane Center said in a statement.

Larry was packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers (60 miles) per hour at 1200 GMT, with higher gusts.

The storm was located some 260 kilometers (160 miles) east-northeast of Veracruz, Mexico.

The hurricane watch extends from Veracruz to Campeche.
