BEIJING (AFP) Oct 06, 2003
A man has admitted throwing pesticide into a reservoir in central China in order to boost sales of the water purifiers he sold, state press reported Monday.

Sixty four people were poisoned in the October 1 incident which affected the water supply to more than 9,000 homes.

The Xinhua news agency quoted police as saying Cao Qian, 27, had admitted poisoning the water in Ruyang county in central China's Henan province to save his struggling business.

Some 42 of those poisoned were hospitalised but their injuries were not life threatening.
