ROME (AFP) Nov 05, 2003
A minor earthquake shook the southeastern Italian village of San Giuliano di Puglia Wednesday, a year after 27 children died when their school collapsed after a tremor, local authorities said.

"Nobody was hurt and no damage has been reported," the civil protection agency said in a statement.

"The shock took place at 3:23 pm (1423GMT) and measured 2.5 on the Richter scale."

The tremor was felt in villages in the Molise region.

The mediaeval village of San Giuliano was hit 5.4 Richter scale quake on October 31, 2002, causing the local school to collapse and killing 27 children and a teacher. Two elderly women were also killed by falling walls.

The following day another shock hit the village and the authorities ordered it to be evacuated. The 1,500 inhabitants were sheltered tents and rehoused in wooden buildings.
