New earth tremor in Algeria at site of killer quake
ALGIERS (AFP) Nov 11, 2003
An earth tremor measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook northern Algeria Tuesday evening in the same area where a killer earthquake claimed nearly 2,300 lives in May, the Algerian geophysical research center said.

The epicenter of Tuesday's quake was 25 kilometers (15 miles) northwest of the town of Zemmouri, some 70 kilometers east of Algiers.

Zemmouri was the epicenter of an earthquake on May 21 measuring 6.8 on the open-ended Richter scale that devastated towns and villages in the region as hundreds of poorly constructed buildings collapsed.

The seismically active zone has been rattled regularly since then.
