Strong tremor in western Greece, no reports of damage, casualties
ATHENS (AFP) Nov 16, 2003
An undersea earthquake with an intensity of 5.3 points on the Richter scale occurred off the western Greek island of Cephallonia early on Sunday, the Athens Observatory said.

There were no reports of either casualties or damage from the region.

The tremor occurred at 9:22 am (0722 GMT) and had its epicentre under the seabed north of the island, 290 kilometres (180 miles) west of the Greek capital Athens.

The region is one of the most earthquake-prone in Greece - itself one of the countries with the most intense seismic activity in the world.
