ATHENS (AFP) Nov 24, 2003
An undersea earthquake with an intensity of 5.2 points on the Richter scale occurred off the southern Greek island of Crete on Monday, the Athens Observatory said.

Local police stations and hospitals did not report either casualties or damage from the region.

The tremor occurred at 5:52 pm (1552 GMT) and had its epicentre under the seabed south of the island, 364 kilometres (226 miles) south of the Greek capital Athens.

The region is frequently hit by earthquakes. Greece is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
