Second quake in 24 hours hits Greek island of Crete, no damage reported
ATHENS (AFP) Nov 25, 2003
The southern Greek island of Crete was hit by a second earthquake in two days on Tuesday, but police stations and hospitals said no casualties or damage were reported.

The second tremor, measuring 4.5 points on the Richter scale, occurred at 3:50 am (0150 GMT) Tuesday, almost exactly 10 hours after a stronger quake, which registered 5.2 points.

In both cases, the epicentre was under the seabed south of Crete, 364 kilometres (226 miles) south of the Greek capital Athens.

Geologists said a big earthquake was usually followed by a moderate one.

The region is frequently hit by earthquakes. Greece is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world.
