Quake jolts Taiwan
TAIPEI (AFP) Dec 18, 2003
An undersea earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale rocked Taiwan Thursday, but there were no reports of damage or casualties, seismologists said.

The tremor hit at 00:27 am (1627 GMT Wednesday) with an epicenter 30.5 kilometers (18.91 miles) southeast of Taitung city in southeastern Taiwan, the Seismology Center said.

The quake, originating 13.6 kilometers below sea level, followed last week's 6.6-Richter scale quake, the most powerful to have hit the island this year but left minor damage and injuries in southern Taiwan.
