Small earthquake rattles north-eastern Bulgaria
SOFIA (AFP) Dec 18, 2003
An earthquake shook the north-eastern region of Bulgaria bordering on the Black Sea in the early hours Thursday but caused only slight damage, rescue services reported.

The quake, measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale, shook the town of Shoumen, 310 kilometres (195 miles) from here, and the coastal resort of Varna.

A tremor of that magnitude can cause moderate to considerable damage, but the service said there were no casualties and only slight damage.
