MANILA (AFP) Dec 20, 2003
Three people were killed and 17 are missing after landslides spawned by heavy rains hit the central Philippine island of Leyte, civil defense officials said Saturday.

The landslides, after hours of non-stop rain late Friday, hit the towns of Liloan and Maasin, the civil defense office said, adding that electrical power in Maasin had been knocked out.

Military and relief officials are in the affected areas to search for the missing.
