Floods hit Turkish tourism center
ANKARA (AFP) Dec 24, 2003
Heavy rains caused flooding in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya, the country's main tourist region, but there were no casualties, local officials said Wednesday.

Several hotels and residential buildings were affected by the floods, which also disrupted traffic on some roads in the province, home to the country's biggest holiday villages.

Local Governor Alaaddin Yuksel said the rain, which started late Tuesday, was the heaviest in the region in recent years, Anatolia news agency reported.

Television footage showed rescuers evacuating a marooned couple with a small baby on a rubber dinghy.
