BAM, Iran (AFP) Dec 28, 2003 The earthquake which struck the Bam region of southeast Iran cost 22,000 lives, according to the latest provisional death toll, the provincial governor's office announced Sunday.
"At a meeting of governorate officials, rescue work officials said the provisional toll for the quake was 22,000 dead," up from a previous official toll of 20,000, said Asghar Vossough, spokesman for the Kerman governorate.
