Jordan's Queen Rania to visit Bam quake victims
AMMAN (AFP) Jan 06, 2004
Jordan's Queen Rania travels Wednesday to the quake-struck southeastern Iranian city of Bam to deliver relief aid to the victims of the earthquake, her office said on Tuesday.

During the brief visit the queen will tour a Jordanian field hospital which has been operating there since last week as well as the citadel of Bam -- considered one of the architectural jewels of world heritage -- which was wrecked in the quake.

A C-130 Jordanian armed forces plane will accompany the queen's flight to Bam, transporting relief aid including medical supplies, tents, blankets and heaters for thousands of people left homeless, her office said.

Jordan has joined the relief effort by sending a field hospital with an operating theatre to Bam and several tonnes of medical supplies and aid as well as a rescue team from the civil defence department.

On Friday Jordanians held special prayers in remembrance of the victims of the devastating earthquake that has killed some 30,000 people.
