The bodies of the victims, a 46-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, were dug out Sunday, several hours after the pair had left their home to collect firewood.

The incident occurred in Tajikistan's mountainous Badkhshan region, where an avalanche last week claimed six lives.

The mountains of Tajikistan were a tourist attraction until a five-year civil war erupted in the 1990s. Many of the sites which attracted visitors were destroyed in the fighting.
