Earthquake off Russia's far eastern coast

An earthquake measuring up to 5.4 on the Richter scale rocked Pacific waters off Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka peninsula early Monday, local emergency officials said.

The quake's epicenter was located some 23 kilometers (15 miles) under the seabed, some 550 kilometers south of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, officials quoted by the ITAR-TASS news agency said.

No casualties or damage were reported.
