Two quakes jolt Japan, no reported injuries

Two earthquakes measuring 5.0 and 4.7 on the Richter scale struck different regions of Japan Tuesday, the meteorological agency said. There was no immediate report of injuries or damage.

The first quake, measuring 5.0 occurred at 1:20 pm (0420 GMT), with its focus 60 kilometers (37 miles) below sea-level off the coast of Hachijo-island, some 500 kilometers south of Tokyo, the agency said.

The second, with a magnitude of 4.7 struck at 3:11 pm (0611 GMT), just off the Pacific coast of Fukushima Prefecture, roughly 200 kilometers north of Tokyo, the agency said. Its focus was located 90 kilometers below sea-level, the agency said.

There was no danger of tsunami tidal waves, the agency said.
