Bush: major disaster typhoon-struck US Pacific islands
WASHINGTON (AFP) Jul 30, 2004
US President George W. Bush on Thursday declared a major disaster in US Pacific islands struck last month by a tropical storm that caused floods and mudslides.

The US territory of Guam and the commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, both located between Australia and Japan, were hit by Typhoon Tingting in late June.

In separate statements, the White House said Bush had declared a major disaster in the Pacific islands and ordered the dispatch of federal aid.
