Bus crashes kill 15 in quake-hit Pakistan Kashmir
MUZAFFARABAD, Pakistan (AFP) Nov 13, 2005
At least 15 people were killed Sunday in two bus crashes in earthquake-devastated Pakistani Kashmir, police said.

Four people died when a minibus skidded off a road, plunging into Neelum river about 10 kilometres (six miles) northeast of state capital Muzaffarabad, deputy inspector general of police, Tahir Qureshi, told AFP.

At least 15 others, including two women and several children, were injured, he said.

Islamic charity group Jamaat-ud Dawa said the toll was higher with seven dead. Some of the passengers had been travelling on the roof on the bus, the group said.

An injured passenger, Mohammad Hassan, said the bus was carrying about 25 passengers.

In a separate accident, 11 people were killed and nine injured when a passenger van plunged into a ravine near the quake-devastated town of Bagh, police said.

The driver of the bus lost control while negotiating a sharp bend on a hilly road en route to the northern Pakistani city of Rawalpindi, police said.

The earthquake last month badly destroyed several roads in the area.

Official figures say the October 8 earthquake killed more than 73,000 people in Pakistan, many of them in Kashmir.
