Britain pledges millions more for quake victims
LONDON (AFP) Nov 17, 2005
The British government on Thursday pledged an extra 70 million pounds (102 million euros, 120 million dollars) to help Pakistan rebuild after the devastating earthquake.

The money is earmarked for long-term construction work, the Department for International Development said in a statement.

Britain has already donated 33 million in the immediate aftermath of the October 8 quake, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale, killed nearly 74,000 people and left a further three million homeless,

The announcement comes ahead of an international donors conference in the Pakistan capital Islamabad this week attended by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
