Severe quake hits Indonesia

A severe earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia's Sumatra island late Saturday, Hong Kong Observatory said.

The quake struck at 1415 GMT and its epicentre was located off the west coast of northern Sumatra, about 210 kilometres west of the city of Medan.
