![]() WASHINGTON (AFP) Nov 23, 2005 US President George W. Bush has released an additional five million dollars in aid to help Pakistan rebuild after last month's devastating earthquake, the White House said on Tuesday. The aid will be drawn from the US Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund for the humanitarian needs of survivors of the massive quake, the White House said in a statement. At a donor conference held over the weekend, the United States and other countries and institutions pledged to provide 5.8 billion in assistance for northern areas of Pakistan still struggling to recover from the catastrophe as winter begins to set in. The US government, which considers Pakistan an important ally in its "war on terror," is one of the top donors to the aid effort. It has pledged 510 million dollars for quake-hit areas of Pakistan.
