Moderate quake hits Indonesia's Papua

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua on Thursday, the meteorology and geophysics office here said.

The quake struck at 5:35 am (2035 GMT Wednesday) with an epicentre 33 kilometers under the bed of the Pacific Ocean some 843 kilometers (522 miles) north of the town of Manokwari, Subagyo from the office here told AFP.

The quake was moderately felt in Manokwari but there were no immediate reports of any damage, Subagyo said.
